Dr.ssa Riva graduated in Italy in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa with a thesis on the electro-clinical features of genetic epilepsy due to SCN1A mutation. She soon after won a Research fellowship at the IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini, working with Prof. Pasquale Striano on genetic epilepsies and new therapeutic options. In 2020, she started a PhD in Genetics in the same Institute and is in her second year of training. The focus of her research is the genetic basis of paediatrics epilepsies and the development of new therapeutic strategies. She is a member of the Italian League Against Epilepsy and of the Italian society of paediatric neurology.
